• Responsible for coordinating and promoting a diverse music program in a select grouping of urban Catholic elementary schools within the Diocese of Phoenix to promote the beauty and artistry that music brings to children.
Essential Job Functions
• Assesses the needs of each school in diverse genres of music: curriculum, staff development, resources, interns, professionals and any other matters related to implementing an effective, relevant, and culturally appropriate music program.
• Researches a variety of music curriculum, materials, and resources appropriate to the developmental level of the students.
• Trains elementary teachers in the proper utilization of music curriculum, materials and resources.
• Provides music instruction to elementary students when necessary to implement curriculum tied to special church holidays, feast days and other events.
• Coordinates and communicates with publishers, vendors, school principals and Superintendent in ordering curriculum materials and resources. Schedules and conducts professional development as needed to utilize resources and curriculum effectively.
• Submits invoices, tracks expenses, and monitors budget. Gives timely financial reports to school principals and Superintendent.
• Schedules classes at each school in collaboration with principals and teachers utilizing music curriculum and experiences. Keeps informed of school and Diocesan calendars and avoids conflicting activities.
• Recruits, schedules and evaluates the use of music interns, professionals and music groups (i.e. Phoenix Symphony) for student experiences and enjoyment within schools.
• Schedules and coordinates performances, field trips and transportation to enhance and enrich students’ music appreciation.
• Provides weekly communications to principals of the program status and scheduled events at each school site.
• Coordinates quarterly meetings with principals and Superintendent to ensure that the instructional goals of the music program are on target.
• Provides monthly reports of activities to the Superintendent of schools.
• Evaluates the activities, resources, interns, community experiences, etc., to maintain an effective program for students.
• Maintains good public relations within schools throughout the Diocese and community. Uses every opportunity to publicize the classical music program and the benefits for students. Solicits support for the goals and objectives of the classical music program.
Additional Job Functions
• Serves as a music minister/musician, when necessary, at Diocesan Catholic School Masses and other liturgical events.
• Performs any other job-related tasks deemed necessary and/or as assigned by Superintendent of schools.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
• Must possess a diverse knowledge base in music appreciation and performance including classical, religious, Broadway, jazz and other music genres.
• Ability to function in a team environment. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to deal with conflict. Ability to travel to schools and meetings including some evenings and weekends.
• Basic skills in organizational development administration, supervision, management, staff development and training, researching knowledge of resources and materials for music programs.
• Must have knowledge of and understand elementary school music programs.
• Must have initiative, creativity, and an open attitude toward problem solving processes. Must be able to judge the suitability of programs and cultural relevancy of music. Ability to operate independently while accepting responsibility for actions.
• Ability to deal with all types of personalities, organizing programs.
Job Requirements:Minimum Qualifications
• BA degree in music, education, communication, or equivalency.
• Experience in coordinating events and working in school settings.
• Must have a valid driver's license and clean driving record
