Thermo Fisher Scientific provides hands-on experience in government relations for ambitious students in political science. As a Government Relations Intern, you promote life sciences research and technologies. You receive mentorship and leadership development opportunities to support future career growth.
How will you make an impact?
Our interns are matched to projects based on their abilities and current business needs. All projects will have significant strategic and/or operating importance to the business to which they are assigned.
Summer projects may include the following responsibilities:
Gain first-hand experience working alongside lobbyists to promote groundbreaking life sciences research and technologies.
Contribute to U.S. and global lobbying projects and assist with the company’s Political Action Committee (PAC).
Manage projects that advance Thermo Fisher’s leadership position in diagnostics, biomedical research, precision medicine, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and other science policy topics.
Work with the U.S. federal government relations team to support advocacy initiatives, including attending meetings with House and Senate offices, trade associations, and government agencies.
Attend congressional briefings, hearings, trade association meetings, and similar events, providing concise written and verbal feedback to the government relations team.
Draft correspondence, talking points, and background materials for use by the government relations team and executives with government officials and agencies.
Coordinate details for government leaders and other VIP visits to our global sites.
Collaborate with our corporate social responsibility and communications teams on special projects to enhance Thermo Fisher’s reputation and showcase our contributions to scientific discovery and local communities.
Complete and present on a major capstone project – the execution of a Congressional Briefing – in support of the government relations team, by the end of the internship.
Start Date: This opportunity is set to begin on May 12th through June 25th for a 10-week internship.
Compensation & Relocation: Our undergraduate Government Relations internships offer an hourly rate of $22.50. Additionally, a relocation stipend is offered in the amount of $5,000 if necessary. Students must be located 50+ miles away from the physical location of the internship to be eligible for the relocation stipend.
How will you get here?
Undergraduate student completing a degree in Political Science, Politics, or a related field of study between December 2025 and June 2026.
0 years of work experience required; previous related internships preferred.
Consistent track record of results demonstrating integrity, innovation, involvement, and intensity.
Energized through championing change, driven in getting results, and savvy in navigating ambiguity.
Excellent interpersonal communication skills with a high degree of emotional intelligence.
